Mumbai, Sept 19: Noted television, film and stage actress Priya Tendulkar, who shot into limelight after her portrayal of ‘Rajani’ in Basu Chatterjee-directed popular TV serial, died of a massive cardiac arrest at her residence here today, family sources said. She was 41. She began her film career with Shyam Benegal`s ‘Ankur’ in 1973 and acted in D K Adarsh`s ‘nasur’ and two other Hindi films.

A well-known name on TV because of her Priya Tendulkar show and ‘Jimmedar Kaun’ taking up social causes, Priya also acted in ‘kisse miya biwi ke’, ‘hum paanch’ and Marathi serial ‘damini’. She also featured in hit Marathi films ‘gondhalat gondhal’, ‘dhakti jau’ and ‘tuch majhi rani’ and had also written a book in Marathi.

But it was as ‘Rajani’ that Priya became a household name across the country with the serial focussing on corruption in society proving a big hit in late 80s.
