Dehra Dun, Sept 26: Uttaranchal government today decided to refer the police recruitment racket in the state to CBI for a thorough probe. "Government has decided to hand over the investigation into the recruitment of sub-inspectors to CBI to ensure full transparency in the inquiry," Chief Secretary R S Tolia told reporters here.

State's Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Rakesh Mittal had been suspended on September 24 following his "suspicious role" in the recruitment of 253 sub-inspectors. Tolia, who was heading the selection committee, said the government did not interfere in the procedure of recruitment at any level.

Mittal was suspended on Wednesday after an inquiry by DGP P D Raturi found him guilty of tempering with marksheets of seven candidates.
