Mumbai, June 17: The case involving alleged nexus of Bollywood with underworld today reached its fag end with the last witness deposing before a special court on the role played by financier Bharat Shah, producer Nasim Rizvi and two other accused in the conspiracy hatched by gangster Chhota Shakeel to target film personalities for extorting money. Investigating officer ACP S S Kamble, deposing before designated judge A P Bhangale, described the procedures and measures adopted by him to probe the case.
He is the 74th witness to depose before the court. Earlier, fourteen Bollywood witnesses, including Sanjay Dutt, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sanjay Gupta and Rakesh Roshan turned hostile by not supporting the prosecution's case. Kamble told prosecutor Rohini Salian that after obtaining permission from the authorities, he had recorded 33 telephonic talks between gangster Chhota Shakeel and film personalities, including Bharat Shah, Nasim Rizvi, Sanjay Dutt, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sanjay Gupta and Harish Sughand.
He said a police team had also carried searches at various places and seized incriminating documents.
ACP Kamble said a chip of cell phone had been recovered from Rizvi when he was arrested on December 13, 2000. This was the same chip, which was used in the talk with Chhota Shakeel, he said and identified it in the court. He said Shah was arrested on January 8, 2001, while co-accused Mohammed Shamshuddin alias Bhatija was held on December 19, 2001.
