New Delhi, July 29: Former NDMC chairman Subhash Sharma overlooked objections by his collegues in the corporation to favour a restaurant group headed by the sons of DDA scam accused Dharamvir Khattar, according to CBI.
Sharma turned a deaf ear to objections raised by V N Reu, CMO (hqr and licence) recommending rejection of the tender of one Dev Raj, regarding renting out of 9657 square feet space on the ground floor and lower ground floor at Akbar Bhawan in Chanakyapuri, CBI alleged in an FIR registered against the former chairman.
The space had been vacated by a department of electronics company, the ET and T.
The allotment sub-committee of NDMC met on June 21, 2002 to decide on the allotment for which the corporation had invited tenders. Incidentally, Raj was the only one to respond.
Though a majority of the members recommended acceptance of the proposal, which was quoted at Rs 36.99 per square feet per month for the business of restaurant-cum-banquet and allied activites, this was not backed by Reu.
Reu then sent a dissenting note recommending rejection of the tender on the ground that there was only one tender and since the building was set up for office-cum-residential purpose, and its use for restaurant will need the provision of kitchen in the premises necessitating further approval from the fire office and health department.
However, Sharma, rejected the note and Raj was directed to form a partnership/ private limited company within 10 days of reciept of allotment letter. Raj then formed a company by name gesture hotel and foods private limited and appointed himself and Khattar's sons Rajesh Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Kamal Kumar as its directors, CBI claimed.
