Commercial vehicle sales up 20% in Q1
New Delhi, July 27: Propelled by Tata Engineering, Ashok Leyland, Eicher Motors and Bajaj Tempo, commercial vehicle sales surged by 19.7 per cent in the first quarter of this fiscal.

A total of 46,899 units were sold in the country during April-June 2003 against 39,179 units in the same quarter last year, data compiled by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed.
Of this, Medium and Heavy (M&H) commercial vehicles sales grew by 18.7 per cent to 27,609 units while Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) grew by 21 per cent to 19,290 units.

In the M&H category, truck sales surged by 20.4 per cent to 22,353 units while that of M&H buses went up by 12.1 per cent to 5,256 units.
M&H truck sales of Tata Engineering went up by 17.5 per cent to 14,393 units while that of Ashok Leyland by 17.5 per cent to 5,646 units.
Recent entrant Eicher Motors and Swaraj Mazda posted 59.1 and 73.6 per cent rise to 1,658 and 580 units respectively.
