As the U.S. prepares possible options for confronting terrorist groups worldwide, Somalia has emerged as one of the most likely targets for U.S. forces, the Washington Post reported Sunday. An interagency group involving intelligence analysts from the State Department, Pentagon, CIA and National Security Council has been debating options for U.S. action against terrorist groups, according to the report.

Preparations involving Somalia appear to be the most advanced, and among the scenarios under consideration are attacks by U.S. Special Forces on strongholds of al-Qaeda and a local affiliate in Somalia or action together with neighboring Ethiopia, the Post reported.
The U.S. is also debating possible actions - not necessarily military but possibly diplomatic, financial or legal - against other nations the U.S. believes harbor terrorist organizations, including Iraq, Indonesia and the Philippines, the Post reported. Bureau Report
