Bail plea of former GU vice-chancellor, two others rejected
Ahmedabad, Nov 28: A special court rejected the bail applications of former vice-chancellor of Gujarat University (GU) K S Shastri and two others for their alleged involvement in the admission scam which rocked the university recently.

admission scam which rocked the university recently.
The special court judge H B Antani here rejected the bail plea of Shastri, his son Pragnesh Shastri and the suspended GU registrar
M P Jadia and observed the trio were involved in a serious offence
which has a direct impact on the interest of society. Moreover, the
investigations into the matter was currently in process and it would
not be proper to release them on bail, the judge added.
Earlier, both Shastri and Jadia had argued before the court that during their tenure in respective offices, they had acted as per the procedures of the university. They also claimed to have not violated any rule or regulation as per the University Act.
In his defence, Pragnesh Shastri the managing trustee of Som Lalit Institute of Management Studies said that he is part of a self-financed institute and the fees that he charged from the students seeking admissions were as per the rules of the institute.
