SEZs to be exempted from contributing to EPF for five years

New Delhi, Nov 06: In a bid to take forward labour reforms, government today said units in the Special Economic Zones will be exempted from making contributions to Employees Provident Fund and employees state insurance for five years.
The first such exemption was given to units in SEZs in Gujarat yesterday, Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma told the National Employee Relations Conference here.
He said that government also proposed to introduce from January next, employment on a contract basis for a fixed tenure.

An amendment to the Contract Labour Act is expected to be brought for this purpose in the winter session of Parliament, he said.
