since independence that there will be a vacancy for the post
of Vice President for sometime.
There is no provision in the constitution for an acting Vice President and the post would remain vacant till the post is filled through election. The vacancy for the office of the vice president had first occurred on July 20, 1969 when V V Giri resigned as acting President and Vice President after the death of Zakhir Hussain on May 3.
The second time a sort of vacancy arose was following the sudden death of President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed on February 11, 1977 and Vice President B D Jatti assumed office as acting President. Bureau Report
