Kolkata, June 08: The CPI-M today rejected media reports that there existed a special 'bonhomie' between the Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, and West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee, saying the two might have developed a rapport as government functionaries, but ideologically and politically they were far apart. ''There is no confusion as there is nothing common ideologically or politically between Advani and Bhattacharjee,'' the CPI-M politburo member, Sitaram Yechuri, told reporters when it was pointed out that the state BJP was 'uncomfortable' at the special 'bonhomie' between the two.

When a questioner pointed out that Bhattacherjee's 'uncompromising' stand against illegal madrasas and dangers of infiltration had earned appreciation of Advani, the CPI-M leader said that "as members of Central and state governments the two may have set up relations, but politically and ideologically they are different".

The state BJP chief, Tathagata Roy, had told reporters here recently that Bhattacherjee's good relations with Advani was a 'myth' created by the chief minister himself.

''The state BJP is trying to expose this myth. Mr Jyoti Basu (former chief minister) has called the BJP a party of savages. He never interacted with BJP leaders. Mr Bhattacherjee is a gentleman. He meets BJP leaders, so they reciprocate. There is nothing more to it. It is not as if Advani is his admirer. As projected by a section of the media,'' Roy had said.
