About 1.07 lakh people, affected by the communal violence in parts of Gujarat, were taking shelter at 92 relief camps being looked after by non-government organisations and local leaders, an official said.
Secretary of the revenue department C K Koshi told reporters here that as many as 74,852 people were taking shelter at 46 relief camps in Ahmedabad alone. Koshi said 2997 people were taking shelter at six camps in Anand district, 8202 people at seven camps in Panchmahal district, 9277 people at 11 camps in Sabarkantha, 2555 people at six camps in Mehsana, 692 at three camps in Kheda, 5072 people at six camps in Baroda and 4184 people at seven relief camps in Dahod district.
The number of relief camps in the state has come down to 92 from 104 and accordingly the number of people taking shelter there has also decreased, he said.
At the relief camps, each person had been given a sum of Rs 5 per day as cash dole, Koshi said. An amount of Rs 25 crore had already been spent on the relief at the camps where atleast six items like wheat floor, rice, pulses, oil, sugar and milk powder had been given by the state government, he said adding at least Rs 25 had been spent by way of these items per day per head.
A sum of Rs one lakh had been paid to the kin of 482 persons who were killed. The compensation had been paid in the case of damage to houses and house-hold articles, he added.
