Gandhinagar, Feb 27: Gujarat opposition leader Amarsingh Chaudhary has described the 2003-2004 state budget, presented in the house today, as ‘illusionary’ and ‘sugar-coated’. Chaudhary, in a statement, said the Union railway budget presented in Parliament yesterday and the state budget were aimed at "pleasing the people" ahead of next general elections. "Such budgets would further worsen the already dilapidated condition of the economy,” he added. Unless there is an increase in revenue through these budgetary provisions, all promises being made by BJP are hollow, the Congress leader said.
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil termed the budget as "misleading and not tax friendly". Gohil alleged that BJP has cheated the people with a tax burden worth Rs 55 crore in different ways and has not kept its promise regarding relief in octroi and to farming sector.
