Madurai, July 04: BJP's Tamil Nadu unit today said there was no need for Prime Minister A B Vajpayee to resign as demanded by VHP president Ashok Singhal on the issue of legislation to enable construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya. State unit president C P Radhakrishnan told reporters here that on sensitive issues like Ayodhya, NDA government led by BJP should abide by the common minimum programme and could not pass legislations on the Ayodhya issue as demanded by VHP.

Radhakrishnan, who is on a 'Rathyatra' against terrorism, and for creating awareness among people about the achievements of the BJP government, lashed out at those who were discouraging the efforts of the Kanchi seer to find an amicable solution to the Ayodhya issue. He said Muslim community should give up their claim on Mathura and Kashi, for permanent communal harmony in the country.

He criticised TNCC president S Balakrishnan for demanding the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani in connection with the Babri Masjid demolition case. Asked if his efforts to convince the caste Hindus to eradicate untouchability indicated that the BJP was moving closer to Dalits, Radhakrishnan said "We are moving closer towards all people."

The BJP leader also urged the state government and employees to go in for talks and solve the problem. They should resolve the issue for the benefit of the state and the people, he added.
