Akshay, 48, was in the national capital to promote his upcoming comedy ‘Singh Is Bliing’.

He asked people present at a fashion show held around the film's theme to donate money for the farmers' families.

The actor earlier pledged Rs 90 lakh for relief of the farmers. He is the latest celebrity after Nana Patekar to come out in the support of distressed farmers.

Akshay said he was clear from the beginning that he would help them directly rather than approaching an organisation.

"I have never spoken about it but I made it a point that we reached out to the farmers directly rather than approaching an organisation. My man went to them, asked their names and handed them a cheque right there," the actor said in an interview here.
