Urging Vaiko to withdraw the bill, the minister assured him that the government would not do anything that would weaken states nor would do anything that would harm the existing harmonious relations between Centre and States. Swamy said keeping in view the interests of states, the Centre had enhanced funds for modernisation of police force in the states to Rs 1000 crore from Rs 10 crore since tackling problems like terrorism and insurgency concerned the entire nation.
