New Delhi, July 08: External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha today asserted that there was no change in India's position either on Tibet or on the presence of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama or other Tibetan refugees in the country.
Sinha's remarks came while addressing consultative
committee of MPs attached to his ministry on the six-day
visit of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to China last
month.
"Regarding Tibet, contrary to some reports, there is no no change in India's position either on Tibet or on the present of his holiness the Dalai Lama or other Tibetan refugees," the minister told the two-hour-long meeting during which there was "widespread appreciation" by MPs, cutting across party lines, regarding the outcome of Vajpayee's visit.
Committee sources said members, however, sought clarifications on the understanding reached by the two sides on the issue of Sikkim, Tibet and the vexed border problem.
