Harare, Nov 08: Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak set West Indies 373 runs to win the first of two Tests when he declared today 40 minutes before the lunch interval on the fifth day. The challenge for West Indies' Brian Lara is to make them at 4.5 an over. There are a minimum of 83 overs left, though the bowlers are unlikely to get through this amount.

West Indies were forced to cope with an awkward 30 minutes before the 150 minutes first session came to an end and they were 18-0.

Resuming on 94-4 overnight, the Zimbabwe batsmen took their second innings to 200-7. Their first innings lead was 172. The home side had made 507-9 declared, West Indies replying with 335. West Indies held slender hopes of an early breakthrough on the final day, but they had to settle for the single wicket of Craig Wishart in the first few overs.
Stuart Matsikenyere confidently made an unbeaten 46, his Tatenda Taibu 21 and in a final flourish Andy Blignaut hit 13.
Streak's declaration might well have deprived Matsikenyere of two half centuries in his first Test match. He scored 57 in the first innings.
West Indies best bowler was Vasbert Drakes, who did not require the assistance of any fielder for his four wickets. Two of his victims were clean bowled and two were leg before.
Jerome Taylor was unable to bowl, though his lower back problems might have disappeared by the start of the second Test in Bulawayo next week. Bureau Report
