Mumbai, July 06: The winners of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy (SNA) awards will be honoured by the President A P J Abdul Kalam here today. Eminent personalities and dignatories from various fields of performing arts will be participating in the function organised by SNA--the National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama-- at the Nehru Centre in central Mumbai. The Delhi-based SNA began conferring honours since 1952 to recognise excellence and achievement of artists on a national basis. SNA fellowship is restricted to 30 living artists scholars at any given point of time, an academy release said. This year, 27 eminent artists have been selected for 25 academy awards including a joint award.

The function will also be attended by Maharashtra governor, Mohd Fazal and Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Jagmohan.


In the category of dance, Malvika Sarukkai (Bharatnatyam) Rajendra Gangani (Kathak), K Ongbi Leipaklotpi Devi (Manipuri), Kiran Segal (Odissi) and Sambhu Bhattacharya (creative dance) will be honoured.
