New Delhi, Nov 11: Pakistan said today there was no official ban on transmission of Indian television channels there and with the advent of direct to home (DTH) transmission no such ban can be enforced anyway.
"Officially, there is no ban on cable operators to
transmit Indian television channels in Pakistan," Information
and Broadcasting Minister Sheikh Rashid told reporters here.
He said like India, Pakistan has also granted DTH licenses and when, within a month or two DTH transmission becomes reality in Pakistan, any such ban would become irrelevant.
Rashid said he was happy to see that PTV was being shown in Delhi and that India has lifted the ban on the Pakistani channel.
Asked about the ban on Indian publications, he said Indian newspapers were being published in Pakistan. On the issue of Indian artists, he said visas to them will be granted on a case-to-case basis. Bureau Report
