Jammu and Kashmir Police have been placed on heightened alert and security has been beefed up in the entire state following the terrorist attack on Parliament house on Thursday morning.
Director General of Police A K Suri told a news agency in Jammu on Thursday afternoon that all police stations in the state were on heightened alert and security personnel had been ordered to exercise utmost vigilance in the wake of the attack. Jammu and Kashmir has been reeling under fidayeen (suicide terrorist) assaults for the past five years. The most gruesome of these was the strike on the state assembly at Srinagar on September 30. Scores of security personnel as well as militants had died in these attacks. Security experts here opine that under tremendous pressure from the security forces, insurgents are on the run and consequently ultras belonging to various outfits are resorting to suicide attacks in sheer desperation.
