Bali (Indonesia), Sept 10: Tamarine Tanasgarn breezed past Nicole Pratt without losing a game in the first round of the Wismilak International yesterday, while Jelena Dokic slumped to another early defeat.
Dokic, seeded fourth, struck her groundstrokes well and had four breaks of serve but wasted opportunities and lacked the consistency of Tathiana Garbin, who won 7-5, 6-3.
Dokic broke in the opening game, but allowed Garbin to level at 3-3 before trading breaks with her Italian rival to be serving for the set at 5-4.
But she began with three consecutive double-faults, dropped her serve at love, and then struggled again with her next service game to surrender the set.
In the second, Dokic again broke to lead 1-0, but Garbin leveled at 2-2 and broke again at 4-3 before serving out the match.

Fresh from an upset win over Daniela Hantuchova en route to a fourth-round appearance at the US Open, Tamarine's confidence was boosted by a weekend audience with the king.

The fifth-seed claimed her first 6-0, 6-0 win on the WTA tour when she overwhelmed Pratt in just 44 minutes.

In other matches, Croatian qualifier Ivana Abramovic upset seventh-seeded Emilie Loit of France 7-6 (4), 7-5 and Spain's Maria Sanchez Lorenzo beat Sarah Taylor of the United States 6-1, 6-4 to earn a second round clash with top seeded Chanda Rubin.

Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany outlasted Chinese qualifier Sun Tian Tian 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1 to set up a meeting with second-seeded Elena Dementieva in the next round.
