New Delhi, Feb 03: Congress today described as "significant" the meeting between Party President Sonia Gandhi and SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav in the backdrop of political developments in Uttar Pradesh but declined to divulge any details until "concrete decisions" are taken. "We have nothing to report at this stage. When leaders of two parties meet, it is bound to be significant. I cannot say anything until concrete decisions are taken", Party Spokesman S Jaipal Reddy told reporters in reply to a volley of questions as to whether the two parties have decided to forge a front in the state.
Reddy parried a question whether the leadership was contemplating disciplinary action against some senior leaders whose kith and kin formed part of the breakaway group of party MLAs in Uttar Pradesh. The reference was obviously to party MPs Noor Bano and Sujan Singh Bundela whose son and brother respectively are part of the rebel MLAs.
Meanwhile, Yadav, still angry over not getting support in its efforts to form a government in Uttar Pradesh, ruled out forging any front with Congress. The SP President told reporters that now the Samajwadi party will not join any front and will only give and take issue-based support. He also ruled out any possibility of forming an alliance in Uttar Pradesh to take on the BSP-BJP Government.
