US forces will carry out their last airdrop of humanitarian supplies to Afgham civilians, General Richard Myers has stated, saying the need for such humanitarian flights has now passed. US forces have flown in some 2.4 million daily rations since the operation began. On Wednesday alone, US C-17 planes dropped 17,000 humanitarian daily rations and 30 containers of wheat, blankets and rations in northern Afghanistan near the Mazar-i-Shagif area and around Kunduz.
A plane chartered by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) landed in Kabul on Thursday in the first flight of its kind, the organisation announced in a statement in Geneva.
The aircraft was carrying 31 tonnes of blankets, tents jerrycans, tarpaulins and kitchen equipment as part of a humanitarian aid package aimed at alleviating food and basic health shortages in the region. Bureau Report
