Severe cyclonic storm likely to hit Tamil Nadu tonight
Chennai, May 13: Several districts of Tamil Nadu, including the metropolis, and Andhra Pradesh coast are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong winds from tonight, as the very severe cyclonic storm over south Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary about 600 kms east-southeast of the city.

At 5.30 am, the storm lay centred near latitude 11.5
degrees north and longitude 85.5 degrees east and the system
was likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly
direction towards north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh
coast, area cyclone warning centre said this morning in a
cyclone alert bulletin.
In view of the slow movement of the system, adverse
weather in the form of heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong
winds are expected to commence over Tiruvallur, Chennai,
Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu,
Pondicherry and south coastal Andhra Pradesh only tonight.
State of the sea, the bulletin said, was likely to be brought to high along-off north Tamil Nadu- south Andhra Pradesh coast.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea, the bulletin added.
