Jaipur, July 22: Showing signs of disenchantment with the BJP, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today said that it can go to the extent of even supporting the Congress in the Gujarat elections if it promoted interests of Hindus and toes the Hindutva line.
"VHP is not directly supporting any political party, but working for Hindu ideology and any political party taking care of the Hindu's interests would be our choice and it can be even the Congress," its international general secretary Praveen Togadia told a news conference here. Elaborating on supporting Congress, Togadia said that its president Sonia Gandhi should first show commitment to work for the cause of Hindus but noted that it would be not an easy task since the Congress plays secular card.

About appointment of S S Vaghela as the Gujarat PCC president, Togadia said this reflected the defeat of the Congress ideology. Togadia also said Late Rajiv Gandhi had worked for the cause of Hindus' interests by allowing BJP's rath yatras and had opened up the locks of the Ram Janambhoomi temple.
