The singer, who performed at the event, received a special recognition award for including gay and transgendered images in her music video for Beautiful.
The 14th Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards named Will & Grace as best comedy and Six Feet Under as best drama.
It marks the fifth straight year that Will & Grace has won in the comedy series category, and a second consecutive win for Six Feet Under. The Hours was named outstanding film in wide release, beating Far From Heaven, Frida, Lions Gate's, The Rules of Attraction and Sweet Home Alabama.
The GLAAD Media Awards honors fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender communities and the issues that impact their lives.
The event is also held in San Francisco, New York and Washington.
