Kochi, Aug 27: VHP today asked the Central and state governments to ban religious conversion through enactment of a law in Parliament and state assemblies and also called for enforcement of a common civil code.
Addressing a press meet here, VHP central secretary Mohan Joshi alleged that "religious conversion was an international conspiracy and was a direct attack on the Hindu culture and values of life."
Enormous money was coming from America, European and Muslim countries for "this unconstitutional activity, through legal and illegal means," he charged.
"If conversion is not stopped through law then the Hindus will be reduced to a minority in so many states and they will be thrown out from the respective states," he said, adding Kashmir valley and Mizoram are examples.
Flow of foreign funds in the name of service and public welfare activities through NGOs should be strictly stopped, he said.
He congratulated the Tamil Nadu government for passing a law against religious conversion.
Urging political parties to support the cause of the ban on religious conversion and enforcement of a common civil code, Joshi said that the Centre should honour the verdict of the Supreme Court and a common civil code should be enforced at the earliest through an act of Parliament.
