Lucknow, Nov 16: The CBI team investigating the Madhumita Shukla murder case today gave Madhumani -- one of the alleged conspirators in the crime, and considered to be 'underground' -- another chance to appear for questioning giving her five more hours to present herself before sleuths at her city residence. ''We can arrest here as we are constantly tracking her movements. But since she is a woman, we want here to voluntarily appear for questioning,'' said a CBI officer adding that her arrest after the questioning could not be ruled out.

In a notice pasted outside the house of Amarmani Tripathi yesterday, the CBI officials had directed Madhumani (wife of Amarmani), Maya (wife of Amarmani's brother), Gyanu and Kishore (said to be Tripathi's kin) to appear before the agency office at 1000 hrs on November 16.

The notices signed by CBI SP T Raja Balaji said the persons were required to present their version on vital points that cropped up during the investigation. A fresh notice pasted today said Madhumani should make herself available at her house at 1630 hrs. The others have, meanwhile, been asked to appear at the camp office of CBI at 1600 hrs.

Another notice was pasted outside the house of state welfare minister (independent charge) Shyam Narain, the uncle of prime accused Amarmani Tripathi, to appear before the agency office here on November 19 at 1000 hrs.

Meanwhile, the CBI was yet to trace Madhumani, who is absconding since alleged killer Prakash Chandra Pandey alongwith other two accused were arrested on November 6 last. A team of CBI sleuths have reportedly gone to Bareilly to trace Madhumani.

The two alleged killers of Madhumita-- Santosh Rai alias Satya Prakash Tripathi and Prakash Chandra Pandey have reportedly told investigators that Amarmani's maternal cousin Rohit Chaturvedi had paid them Rs two lakh to carry out the killing on May 9 last at the behest of Madhumani. Madhumani was reportedly peeved at the intimacy the 24-year-old poetess shared with her politician husband.

The CBI has also recovered a .315 bore country-made pistols from a house in Gorakhpur which the killers had used to kill the seven-month pregnant poetess.
