New Delhi, July 24: Taking serious note of reports of "security lapse" resulting in killing of seven Vaishno Devi pilgrims in a terrorist attack near Katra, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to submit a report within three weeks into the attack and alleged "laxity of security". Taking suo motu cognizance of the reports, NHRC, after its full commission meeting here yesterday, issued a notice to state DGP seeking a report into the incident, the commission said today.
Referring to a media report stating that state minister for public health and engineering Jugal Kishor had conveyed to the state DGP that security in the area was "lax", the commission said "it was a matter of serious concern if the laxity of security had been conveyed to the DGP as reported in the media and no immediate steps were taken."
Asking the authorities to ensure that full force of law must be brought to bear in dealing with such acts of terrorism and bringing to justice those who perpetrate or abet them, NHRC said such criminal acts were "wholly unjustified and are violative of every conceivable human rights."
The commission also extended its deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives in the terrorist attack.
