New Delhi, Mar 23: Theatre personality Mohan Agashe has been awarded Germany's prestigious Goethe-medal for promoting cultural relations between Germany and India.
"Agashe's greatest contribution to Indo-German relations has been his pioneering work of introducing the GRIPS youth theatre concept in India," said a German embassy statement here.

The GRIPS theatre was developed in Berlin by playwright Bolker Ludwig, who conceived the idea of a theatre for children and young people to create awareness on social issues.

Actor and psychiatrist Agashe would receive the award Monday along with Nobel laureate Imre Kertesz of Hungary and Brazilian politician and writer Sergio Paulo Rouanet.

Since 1992, the award is presented annually on March 22, the death anniversary of German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

In 2002, Agashe received Germany's prominent award - Bundesverdienskreuz (The Cross of the Order of Merit). Bureau Report
