The ruling Taliban called Monday on the United Nations to resume operations in Afghanistan to prevent a humanitarian disaster. The appeal has come after Osama, who is supposed to be in Afghanistan, criticised UN, labellling it as anti-Musliam organisation. The United Nations has been reluctant to operate inside Afghanistan because of security concerns. Instead, UN officials have been trying to persuade Pakistan to open its borders to more refugees who could be cared for on Pakistani soil. Pakistan already has about 2 million Afghan refugees - some of whom have been here since the war against Soviet invaders 20 years ago. The government of President Pervez Musharraf prefers to have the Afghans cared for on the Afghan side of the frontier.
