Ahmedabad, Sept 19: The indefinite curfew, which was clamped on Tuesday in Borsad town of Anand district after incidents of arson, was relaxed for women and children this morning. The police firing amid the unrest in Borsad last Tuesday had claimed one life.
The curfew was relaxed from 8 am to 11 am to enable women to buy essential items, police said, adding that no untoward incident was reported during the curfew relaxation period.
However, after the relaxation period the curfew continued to remain in force strictly as tense situation still prevailed in the trouble-torn town of central Gujarat.
The town had witnessed a clash between members of two communities over an issue of riding motorcycle on Monday and police had to open fire after the mob hurled crude bombs. Authorities imposed indefinite curfew in the town on Tuesday morning.

However, in another bout of violence on Tuesday, some shops were set ablaze by the frenzied mobs in the town, forcing police to lob 31 teargas shells and fire 22 rounds, in which one person was killed and three others sustained injuries.

Twenty-six policemen and fire brigade personnel were also injured in the stone pelting.
