New Delhi, Oct 19: Cellular operators welcomed the launch of BSNL's cellular services, Cellone, but said the Telecom Corporation's decision to offer free incoming for its fixed-to-mobile network calls under a particular tariff plan is anti-competitive and unfair to private operators. "We welcome the entry of BSNL, which has launched its cellular services and look forward to marching with them with they being the senior partners," Cellular Operators' Association of India (COAI) director-general T V Ramachandran said.
"We consider this anti-competitive... In any regulatory regime this would be considered unfair," he said. Another unfair element, according to COAI, is BSNL's decision to waive security deposits for existing BSNL customers. He did not comment on COAI's future course of action on the issue saying, "let us first study the tariffs in detail."
