New Delhi, Aug 07: Close on the heels of controversy over pesticides in soft drinks, the BJP in Karnataka today demanded immediate withdrawal of tax concessions given by the Congress government in the state to Coca Cola and Pepsi to the tune of Rs 170 crore, alleging that it was one of the "largest tax scams" the country has witnessed. "The Karnataka government should forthwith withdraw these tax concessions for Coca Cola and Pepsi companies which the state government has not given to 'swedeshi' soft drink companies flouting the natural justice of level playing field," Karnataka BJP president Ananth Kumar told reporters here. He alleged that despite a ban on giving tax concession to non-core industries, the state government had given exemption on sales tax to Hindustan Coca Cola and Pepsi resulting in loss to the exchequer. "I want the entire tax scheme to be debated in the country," Kumar said adding that the issue would be raised in Parliament also. Bureau Report
