New Delhi, Mar 24: In a bid to curb vehicular pollution more stringently, Delhi government has decided to impose a hefty fine of Rs 1000 and Rs 2000 with effect from April 1 on vehicles not carrying 'pollution under control' certificates having photographs of the vehicle registration plate. Vehicles with PUC certificates not having such photographs shall be liable to be challaned with fines of Rs 1000 and Rs 2000 for first and subsequent offence(s) respectively, transport minister Ajay Maken said in the assembly here today.
He said the new norms will cover all vehicles plying in the national capital including those registered in state/union territories other than Delhi and they would be required to carry only valid PUC certificates having photograph of the vehicle registration plate.
The decision follows the recent upgradation of pollution checking facilities in Delhi by computerisation of the PUC issued by the authorised pollution checking centres, Maken said, adding facilities in this regard were already available at 345 computerised centres located in petrol pumps/workshops spread all over Delhi.
