Moscow, Sept 03: At least five people were killed and over 20 wounded in twin blasts on a commuter train in south Russia today, the interior ministry said. The train, which was carrying around 50 passengers, was travelling between stations at kislovodsk and Mineralyne Vody linking popular mineral spas in the Stavropol territory close to Chechnya, when the blast rocked a packed coach of the six bogey commuter train at around 9:30 IST.
According to the Russian interior ministry two landmines were planted on the tracks at a distance of six meters on Kislovodsk - Mineralniye Vody line. The landmines planted on the railway track left one-meter wide craters, Ria Novosti quoted interior ministry sources.
So far nobody has claimed responsibility for the blasts.
In 1998 in a blast at another railway station on the same line several people were killed and two Chechen female terrorists were convicted. In 2001 over 20 people were killed in car bomb blast in busy market in Mineralniye Vody- a major transport hub linking world famous Caucasian mineral water spas with rest of the country. Bureau Report
