Pune, Aug 09: The country's top three software companies, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro and dark horse Cognizant Technology Solutions have emerged as the country’s top four offshore vendors, in a survey conducted by the global research and advisory firm, Gartner. This is the first time Gartner has evaluated India’s top nine software companies against global standards, across five levels in 14 parameters. The nine companies considered were TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Satyam Computer Services, HCL Technologies, Patni Computer Services, Covansys Corporation, Cognizant and Syntel.

The top four have received a ‘positive’ rating, the second highest, while five others have been rated ‘promising’, which is the third highest. A positive rating indicates the vendor has strengths in specific areas but is largely opportunistic, while promising indicates potential in specific areas but the vendor has not fully evolved or matured.
The rating also offers indicators for customers and potential customers. For companies assessed as positive, customers know that they can continue with incremental investments, while potential customers can put the vendor on a short list. Customers of promising vendors are told to look out for a change in status and consider scenarios for short and long term impact. Potential customers should plan for and be aware of issues and opportunities related to the evolution and maturity of this vendor or initiative. Bureau Report
