Mumbai, Feb 26: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has seized goods branded with fake Indian Standards Institute (ISI) marks during raids conducted in Nashik earlier this month, official sources said here today. During the search and seizure operations on February 19 and the day after, a substantial quantity of plywoods/blackboards of ruby, supreme and honesty brands marked spuriously with BIS standard mark (ISI logo) were seized, the sources said. The firms allegedly involved were Bharat plywoods, Abr (Bros and Sales) Ltd, Om plywood and mahatma enterprises, the sources said. The sources said that action had been initiated against all the offenders for violation of BIS Act 1986. The offence is punishable with imprisonment upto one year or a fine of Rs 50,000 or both.
