New Delhi, Oct 26: Former supercop K P S Gill today expressed concern at terrorism "slowly spreading its tentacles" in the country's North-East and attributed it to "lack" of good governance and "total neglect" of youth and the educated unemployed. "The state of affairs in the North-East is saddening and distressing. Terrorist organisations operating in the North-East have unleashed a reign of terror striking at the root of peace and democracy," Gill said releasing a book 'Mirage of Terrorism' authored by a former police official A. Quddus. The former Punjab DGP said outfits like the Bodo, Ulfa, TNLF and NSCN groups were slowly spreading their tentacles in the states in the region and there was an urgent need to deal with them through "maturity and political will".
Observing that strikes and agitation were the order of the day in North-East, he attacked trade unions and students organisations for "holding normal life to ransom". "These groups indulge in agitation for agitation sake. This mentality is taking over in North-East and has become a way of life", he said adding the chief reason for all these were the "lack of good governance, education, total neglect of young and educated unemployment".
Author Quddus, a senior police official in North-East and Punjab, said his book is a compilation of his experiences in handling terrorism, views about the scourge which has engulfed large part of the world and also identifies its genesis. Bureau Report
