Madurai, June 06: Six cannon balls, believed to be nearly two centuries old, used by British colonisers to attack the famous Panchalankuruchi Fort of freedom fighter Veerapandiya Kattabomman in Tuticorin district, were unearthed while cleaning work was on at the ancient fort.
Archaeological department officials said today each ball, seven cms in diameter and weighing 500 grams, was made from local rocks, they said.
"As the balls are in uniform size, we think that these may have been made using some machines," they added.
