New Delhi, Dec 06: Amnesty International today demanded immediate implementation of recommendations of the Srikrishna Commission, which probed the 1992 Mumbai riots, saying that the Congress-led government in Maharashtra has "simply buried the report".
More than four years after the publication of its report, "no significant steps have been taken by the Maharashtra government to implement the same," Amnesty International alleged in a statement here on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the riots. "Whereas the previous Shiv Sena-BJP government in the state tried to disband the commission itself in 1996, the present Congress-led government has simply buried the report with silence. "Amnesty International believes that the recommendations of the Srikrishna Commission should be fully implemented so that the conditions which allowed the riots to take place can be eradicated and similar abuses prevented from happening again," the statement said.
