Itanagar, Dec 1: The BJP's Arunachal Pradesh unit has expressed concern over the inclusion of Bangladeshi immigrants in the states electoral roll and urged the chief electoral officer to delete their names immediately. The party in a letter to the CEO apprehended that the large presence of the immigrants and the inclusion of their names in the roll might change the demographic pattern of the state.
If this was not checked at the initial stages, it would have a serious political, social and economic impact on the state, it alleged.
The BJP claimed that some ''politicians with vested interest'' have brought the Bangladeshi immigrants into the state for their political gain.
Besides restricting this, it should be ensured that no such new names were allowed to enter the voter's list as the identity of bonafide tribes and other Indian citizens would then become difficult, the letter added.
