Srinagar, June 23: The National Conference today appealed to India and Pakistan to initiate a "meaningful dialogue" to resolve outstanding issues between them and appreciated the efforts of international community to persuade both the countries to come to the negotiation table.

"We make a fervent and sincere appeal to both countries that they should find a way to resolve the conflict and initiate a meaningful dialogue," the party said in its political resolution adopted at a special session held here after 18 years.
Expressing grave concern over the events which have brought the sub-continent to the "brink of a war", it said "If the present tension lead to a nuclear war, then this paradise on earth will suffer unimaginable devastation."
The resolution appreciated and "fully supported" the efforts of international community to persuade the two countries to come to the negotiation table and resolve their differences amicably. It said "NC reiterates its consistent stand that wars do not solve issues but make them more complicated. These only add to the miseries of innocent people.” "We firmly believe that both neighbours must avoid war and devote their energies for the welfare of their peoples," the resolution added.
