Ahmedabad, Feb 06: In the wake of unexplained "vibrations" around the boundary wall of Jamalpur fire brigade station quarters here, a team from Indian Meteorological Department from New Delhi placed four seismographs to record the "vibrations". The team comprising K C Kondal from IMD, Delhi and director of IMD, Ahmedabad, R K Bakliwal arrived here last night from Rajkot to conduct a detailed scientific probe into the recurring "vibrations" that have been creating panic among residents living in the old structure. Residents say that a "huge vibration" as felt at 12.10pm this afternoon, that even shook portions of the adjoining water pump station run by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Vibrations of lesser amplitude were reported for two hours yesterday evening and this morning. The state was rocked by a devastating earthquake two years ago that claimed hundreds of lives and left many more maimed.

Kondal told a news agency that "no reason can be cited right now and we have placed four seismographs at places where the 'vibration' was reported to be most vigorous. It requires detailed observation and there should be restricted movement in the area to prevent the instrument from recording other movements".

Though there is no structural damage either to the fire station quarters building or nearby shops, some cracks were detected in brick structures adjoining the quarters.

Regarding the "mysterious blasts" occurring at Rajkot city for over a month, Kondal said "there is no sign of any seismic activity close to an earthquake. The probe is going on and we are recording each incident".

Both the scientists reported "no specific" reading as yet.
