Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said she would relinquish power on July 15 and hand over charge to the chief of caretaker government to hold the upcoming general elections likely to be held in October. "I have given the formula of the caretaker government I wish we would make it a remarkable day (July 15 ) through a colourful and jubilant celebration, She told BSS, the national news agency at her Jatiya Sangsad (national parliament) office.
Her decision on relinquishing authority came when the Opposition were parties are planning for a Dhaka march on July 9. The Opposition announced to celebrate on July 13 for the fall of government - a demand they (Opposition) were making for the past two years. The prime minister said she would advise president justice Shahabuddin Ahmed on July 9, the day of her last Cabinet meeting, to form the interim caretaker government in line with the constitution.

The five-year term of the current Parliament expires on July 13, but since the Friday and Saturday are holidays in Bangaldesh, the Prime Minister will hand over power on Sunday. She earlier said the Parliament will be dissolved on July 12.
Hasina government on June 23 celebrated completion of its full five year in office, an unique event in parliamentary history of Bangladesh.
