On board special IAF aircraft, July 16: Justifying India's stand of not sending troops to Iraq, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today said the government had been guided by the views of Parliament which had criticised the US-led military action.
"Our Parliament has criticised the US action which was without the mandate of the United Nations. Therefore, how can we send our troops," Advani told reporters on board a special IAF aircraft.
However, the country has conveyed to US that it would provide all humanitarian aid and assistance including deployment of medical mission in Iraq, Advani said.
Referring to his recent meeting with US ambassador Robert Blackwill, Advani said, "I had conveyed to him that the killing of American soldiers in Iraq was in pursuance of their duties given by US authorities."
