Decision on appointment of CDS at appropriate time: Vij
New Delhi, Jan 15: Asserting that an infrastructure for the integrated staff had been created by the government, the Army Chief Gen N C Vij today said the decision on the appointment of a Chief of Defence Staff would be taken at an appropriate time.

He said it was the group of ministers who post-Kargil operations had recommended the creation of such a structure and it was upto the government to take the decision at an
appropriate time.
Vij told reporters after the army day parade here that the option before the government was either first to appoint a CDS or to set up an infrastructure. "The government, however, went ahead and first set up an infrastructure. Now we have an appropriate structure for the set up and I think the appointment of a CDS should follow soon.
