Mumbai, Jan 27: Police today arrested three officers of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) under a stringent law on the charge of helping underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's gang in illegally developing shopping plazas in the city. The three officers including BMC assistant commissioner Kiran Acharekar have been arrested under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and would be produced before special judge A P Bhangale, police said.
They are facing the charge of conniving with Iqbal Kaskar, Dawood's brother, to help the underworld in channelising money in real estate.
Iqbal, along with four others, is already in judicial custody in this case. They are also charged with forcibly evicting a woman from her house to illegally develop Sara Shopping Centre and Sahara Shopping Complex in south Mumbai.
The other accused in custody are Abdul Rehman, Satar Teli, Tanwar and Narendra Rajbhar. Bureau Report
