New Delhi, Nov 03: Desperate for quality education outside classrooms and that too at an affordable cost.
Dewsoft Overseas, an Indo-US company and the world’s biggest online education provider, claims it can meet the aspirations of a wide spectrum of people--school and college students, housewives, senior citizens, professionals, entrepreneurs and also middle and top rung corporate executives.
Among the hordes of direct selling companies, the fledgling Dewsoft Overseas is unique in its own right. Set up in March 2000, it is the only company of its kind in India that provides online education on its portal www.bigbanyantree.com.
''Online education is considered to be a new technology in India, though it is an acceptable system in the west,'' says Rishi Sahdev, CEO, Indian operations, Dewsoft Overseas, which has registered a phenomenal growth during the last three years of its existence.
During the financial year 2003-04, the company has paid Rs one crore advance service tax, which is the maximum by any company in the country in this category.

''Everyone wants quality education but there are several limitations, the foremost being limited access to good schools and colleges. Besides, the cost is prohibitive. Then there is limitation of time for those in jobs,'' he points out.

Another major drawback of conventional classroom education, he says, is that teachers tend to be biased in favour of meritorious students, with the result the weak ones get further neglected.

''The online education entails no human interference and is free from biased attitude and favouritism of teachers normally found in a classroom. It identifies your weak points, which is, however, our strongest point, he says.

Dewsoft provides continuing education and recurrent training to its users through its brick and mortar RTT (Real Time Training) centres and the web portal. ''our interactive, online professional education courses allow the users to keep them in good standing without leaving their homes and offices at their own pace and individual schedule.''

The portal charges Rs 6,000 for a year of online education for which one has to normally pay Rs 3-4 lakh while studying in a good college. ''The amount comes to Rs 16.50 per day. If you compare it with the charge for car parking in a city, which comes to Rs 15 per day, it will sound a pittance.

During the financial year 2002-03, the company offered the maximum variety of subjects in the field of computers, management, CBSE syllabi, encyclopaedia, health, hospitality, electronics and self-discipline through its online education package. The RTT centres provide courses from a week’s time to three years.
