Unidentified attackers threw a hand grenade at a house in the eastern Ampara district, killing four members of the same family, and injured another man with gunfire, police said on Thursday.
The men involved in the attack late on Wednesday night could be Tamil tiger rebels, said a policeman in the local station, who spoke by telephone on condition of anonymity. No other details were immediately available. Ampara is a district approximately 200 km east of the capital Colombo.
There was no mention of the attack on the rebels' web site. Bureau Report
